WFPD Honors Women’s History Month

Detective CheRita Lewis

Detective CheRita Lewis was born and raised in Wichita Falls.  She joined the Wichita Falls Police Department March 31, 2009 and graduated from the 62nd WFPD Academy.

Detective Lewis is currently assigned to the Criminal Investigation Section where she works with the Misdemeanor Unit.  Prior to that she was assigned to Patrol.  She has been awarded the Police Excellence bar and currently holds an Intermediate Peace Officer’s certification.

“Joining this Department is like being a part of a brotherhood. Even more so, thinking about the small group of women that are on this Police force is symbolic to a sisterhood. Knowing that we all had to fight to be just as strong and just as tough as the men we serve the community with, is an inspiration in itself. We were not catered to in the Academy and we are not catered to out there on the streets simply because we are women. Overcoming adversity and obstacles is something every woman serving on this Police Department has had to overcome.”

In her free time she enjoys working out or watching movies.

  1. Cherita Lewis is an asset to the Wichita Falls Police Department.

She is always very professional and courteous to anyone she encounters.

WFPD should be proud to have her as a member of the department.
