If you’ve ever wondered what it’s like to be a police officer, now’s your chance to find out.

The WFPD’s Community Services Section is now accepting applications for the Spring 2022 Citizen Police Academy. The free course is offered two times a year and is open to anyone 18 and older.

The class will start on March 7 and will meet on Monday nights from 6:00-9:00pm.Over the course of 12 weeks, students will endure an obstacle course, fire automatic weapons, witness drug dogs in action, get behind the wheel of a police cruiser and learn to make split-second decisions during live action scenarios.

Students will receive instruction from officers from the Motors Unit, SWAT, SCUBA, District Attorney’s Office, Fire Department, Crime Scene Investigation, Traffic, Patrol and more.

More Bomb Threats at Local Schools

On 08-13-21, at approx 1345hrs, officers responded to a bomb threat at Hirschi High School. Over the course of the next hour, 4 more threats came in at Rider, Old High, Barwise, and Kirby.

All 5 schools activated their emergency protocols and evacuated the students while the buildings were cleared in a multi-jurisdictional effort. Once the buildings had been cleared and no bombs were found, students were returned to the schools for their normal dismissal activites.

This is the second day in a row that these types of threats have been called in. We are asking anyone with any information about who may be making these threats to call us immediately. Terroristic Threats are a violation of the law and will be taken seriously.

Wichita Falls Crime Stoppers is offering a $2500 reward in the case. To call in an anonymous tip, please call 940-322-9888.

Bomb Threat Investigation – All Clear

UPDATE: The building has been cleared and no bombs were found. However, the case will remain under investigation. Terroristic Threats are a violation of the law and will be taken seriously. If any one has any information about this threat, or know who may have called it in, please call Crime Stoppers at 940-322-9888.

Wichita Falls Police and Fire Units, along with resources from Sheppard Air Force Base, are on scene at Old High, 2149 Avenue H, due to a reported bomb threat.

At this time, all students and faculty have been evacuated. Most students have left for the day or have been picked up from school.

As a precaution, all participating agencies will remain on the scene until the investigation is complete and the building has been cleared.

Although no bomb has been located at this time, we do ask the public to avoid the area until further notice.

Accident Claims the Life of a Child

***UPDATE TO PREVIOUS NEWS RELEASE***

It grieves our hearts at the WFPD to notify our city family that the three-old child involved in the injury crash on 07-21-21 has passed away. Titan Pendleton died at 9:19 pm on 07-26-21 at Cooks Children’s Medical Center. Sgt. Paul Newton of the WFPD Crash Investigations Unit advised criminal charges are expected to be filed on the mother. Please pray for Titan’s family and our city as we grieve the loss of one of our little one.

ORIGINAL NEWS RELEASE:

WFPD officers responded on 07-21-21, at about 3:34 pm, to an injury crash at N. Martin Luther King Blvd and Wichita Street. According to witnesses, a white Dodge Charger was traveling west on Wichita. The Charger was driving the wrong way on a one-way street. As the Charger approached the intersection, the driver failed to stop and was attempting to turn south onto N. Martin Luther King Blvd. A gray Audi Q7 was traveling north on N. Martin Luther King Blvd in the right lane. The driver of the Audi did not have time to stop when the Charger pulled out in front of him. The Audi struck the left passenger compartment of the Charger.

A three-year-old child was sitting in a child safety seat on the side of the impact but was not secured in the child safety seat. The child and the driver of the Charger, the child’s mother, were transported to the hospital.

The child sustained serious injuries and was flown to Cooks Children’s Medical Center in Fort Worth, Tx. The child’s mother also sustained injuries and was being evaluated at the hospital.

Murder Suspect Arrested

Ramon Rubio was arrested by the WFPD SWAT team during the execution of a search warrant at 703 Barwise street on 07-24-21 at 8:21 pm. Rubio will be charged with the Murder warrant as well as an additional felony arrest warrant for the offense of Assault/Family Violence- Choking with a bond of $150,000.00.
